Accepted!

I had my YL Extension interview last Friday the 13th. Luckily, it was a non-teaching week, so I was able to schedule it without any problems. I contemplated wearing my “lucky shirt” for the interview, since it has never let me down before — CELTA and job interviews — but since I had to rush back to work afterwards, I decided not to.

I was nervous, but the interviewer was very nice and he had a very calming voice, so I felt at ease straight away. The interview was quick, just thirty minutes, and we talked about the application, the course, and other things about me, such as work experience and reasons for doing the YL Extension.

Just an hour or so after the interview — not long at all — I got an email saying that I had been offered a place in the course in May. It’s already a full course as it is because there are no more available spots, so I feel really elated about how things turned out.

My next step now is getting a two-week leave approved by management so that I can actually go and do the course. Unfortunately, the course takes place during a teaching term and we are currently under-staffed, so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that we get new team members in the coming weeks so that I’m free to take some time off.

In the meantime, I have the pre-course task to accomplish and quite a bit of pre-course reading to do as well. It should be interesting to get back into study mode on top of managing a new level for the new term.

I am optimistic, as always.
